A quantitative study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge and practice regarding metered dose inhaler techniques among obstructive airway disease patients. The objectives of the study were to assess the knowledge and practice regarding correct use of metered dose inhaler (MDI) techniques among obstructive airway disease patients, to evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on MDI techniques between pre test and post test knowledge and practice scores, to find out the association between the pre test knowledge and practice regarding MDI techniques with selected demographic variables. Consecutive sampling technique was used to select 60 subjects for the study. The tools used for data collection were demographic data, knowledge questionnaire and checklist to assess the practice regarding MDI techniques and structured teaching programme. The intervention of structured teaching programme was given immediately after pre-test and post-test done after 7 days of intervention. The mean pre-test knowledge score was 3.95 and mean post test was 5.85. The mean pre-test practice score was 3.40 and mean post-test practice was 3.98 after the intervention. Therefore the study concluded that structured teaching programme was effective in enhancing knowledge and practice regarding MDI techniques was statistically significant at 0.001 level (z=6.83 and 5.057, p<0.00) There is no association found between the socio demographic variables with knowledge level of obstructive airway disease patients.
